Case study 2 : Shipment clearance support for a Chemical Industry Project

AZKA’s out of box solutions helped save few million dollars for the client

 

Project included: shipments struck over 4 months of importation in Iraq which included 128 containers of Chemicals, three LCL shipments of lab testing equipments and 15 RORO shipments.

Opportunity for Solutions:

  • Shipments were stuck due to pending approval for import under temporary list faced with approval challenges due to non translated packing list, unspecified cargo value, markings and clarified usage of project duration
  • Clearance of 12 temporary import shipments struck at UMQ port 3 LCL shipments of lab testing equipments
  • 128 containers of Chemicals, project camp materials and facility management
  • 15 RORO shipments of high value assets including earth moving equipments & cranes

Strategic Solutions offered:

  1. Re-exporting of few shipments to AZKA’s Dubai hub and few others were routed to khor al Zubair free zone until issues related to temporary approval permit were resolved
  2. In coordination with client, consignee, Ministry of Exports and Ministry of Finance, AZKA’s customs broker secured approval for temporary import
  3. AZKA also updated the documents with specified details that were missed out in initial approval and had them registered with south and port customs
  4. Assets cleared on temporary basis was retuned backed to free zone facility pending decision of re-export or usage of same for other project  
  5. Solution to chemical cargo and camp material was solved using AZKA’s trade license and needed import permit
  6. Converting the shipment as commercial cargo and supported delivery on DDP basis
  7. Undertaking from consignee for release of high value asset obtained and request to grand release from ministry of electricity obtained using ministerial contacts and undertakings and completion of relevant formalities and secured release
  8. For few assets the solution to have this transferred to Khor Al Zubair free zone secured and reduced port storage charges

Outcome:

  • Approvals and permit issues were resolved
  • AZKA’s team assisted client with release of some assets under special contract
  • Shipments were released and delivered without further delay
